I teach 16-19 year olds on a range of Sports Courses. I stumbled into wikis for learning to supplement that fact we currently have no VLE for our students an wanted to promote collaboration between students and staff and students. I coach part time with a professional football club and enjoy reading.

Exciting times....

Nothing can happen if you wait and wonder

Wednesday night, I am really buoyed by the possibility of a transatlantic collaboration with Mary Hricko. We are hoping to promote the use of wikis with undergraduate educationalists and our students here at Tauntons College. At present we have narrowed the focus down

Introduction to Tauntons College

"A body in motion stays in motion unless it is acted upon."

So far so good. We put together a small induction program and in this program we tried included all the tools that we (the teachers and last years 1st Yr students) thoughts were needed, we also trialled one or two new ideas - afterall the only sure way to always success is to have no new ideas. Although I questioned some of the students suggestions as being perhaps rather simplistic, they have been perhaps som…

I know whats around the corner only....

I dont know where the corner is. I am teaching more additional hours than ever before yet at the same time looking for a new post. Despite this endeavour, I am reluctant to let my social and teaching responsibilities dissolve away unnoticed.

So I have decided to commit to two sessions a week after college to support those staff that want to dip their toes into webware water. I am not sure how the next few weeks will pan out but I intend to write a mini scheme of webware tools that we i…

Scrapblog

Its been a long day. INSET that was uninspiring, but necessary. I come home to 'pottle' and find scrapblog.com.

So I throw together a scrapblog of last years Chicago trip and it makes me feel especially proud. Its such a simple tool, easy to put together and I am already thinking of ways to add some sound pedagogy structure to it. Record a group project, the sporting year, student yearbook. Look, basically its a neat tool and its remind…

Hi Kristan,
Well, YouFig.com is a useful site for online collaboration, also between students-students and teachers-classes. There are some interesting collaboration workspaces there you can join and create yourself.

Hi Kristan,
Thanks for the welcome. Btw, let me know if you'd like an invitation to YouFig.com. I still have a few left.

Let me get back to you next weekend. I'm supposed to be taking on a project of increasing ICT use across the curriculum, and something like this would fit in perfectly with it. However things were getting a little confused as at the end of term there was talk of about 3 different projects/working groups being set up on ICT. I need to clarify my position at school and exactly what I'm doing before I commit.

I'm keen to help, and this is exactly the sort of thing I'm going to push for, but its going to be a busy year and makes sense to fit this in with what school expects of me.

Hi Kristian, apologies for the delay in getting back to you, I have somewhat 'switched off' over the Summer hols!

I'm just starting to switch back on now and have been working on my wiki a little. So far it's just been a case of filling it with the scheme of work ready for staff to use this term.

Have you had any thoughts on how you want to develop the staff section? I'm hoping as I develop the use of our wiki I should have more to contribute...

Thanks!

Once the dust settles over here, I would love to run some things by you for some input and idea.

Hi Kristian!

I guess staying busy keeps me out of trouble ;-) (and it always seems that I'm in it!--just ask my Lan administrator)

What wiki tool are you using? I have used pbwiki and wetpaint. I will keep you posted on my portfolio adventures. 16-19 year olds are fun to work with. They tend to be rebellious and willing to test limits-I taught high school English prior to crossing over to the university side--I miss the atmosphere of students that challenge authority--I really had lots of fun teaching at that level.
